nymph in Greek mythology, who along with his sister, IdajÄ… raised Zeus. Father Zeus, Kronos, swallowed his c hildren immediately after birth because he was afraid that depriv e him of power. His children were, however, the gods, so they liv ed in his belly. Kronos swallowed his children by the prophecy of the deprivation of his power by his son. His wife, Rei did not like it, so gave birth to Zeus in secret before Kronos and gave him a child rather than a large stone wrapped in swaddling clothes.
